Artist Sally Nixon’s illustrations portray women in refreshingly realistic scenes.

The illustrator from Little Rock, Arkansas, wanted to create pictures of women in deliberately relaxed, almost private places.

Her drawings provide an alternative image of women to the perfect, often digitally altered portrayals that proliferate mass media.

27-year-old Sally told indy100:

I'm interested in depicting women in a realistic way and finding beauty and humor in ordinary situations.

Some of these images are intimate in nature...

...giving a glimpse into their private everyday lives

And they provide a much-need alternative to the representations of the female body in the media today

Others are delightfully simple...

...or even provocative

And raise important questions about identity...

...and family

The ladies I draw are relatable, not perfect or glamorized...
