We found out the crazy Michael Phelps's breakfast of victory and glory, now we've found the best breakfast for a lean and muscular body.
Croissants? You bourgeois pig. Put it down. And throw out the frosted, cocoa, crunchy, nut, fruit, shredded flakes.
One half of a grapefruit? Forget it.
According to Charles Polequin, a physique coach who has trained Olympic athletes and American football players, the best way to a lean and muscular physique consists of meat and nut based breakfast.
Writing for his blog Strength Sensei, Polequin advocates changing your breakfast because:
What you eat for breakfast sets up your entire neurotransmitter production for the day.
As such, meat and nuts for breakfast raise your dopamine and acetylcholine.
He says these two neurotransmitters, said to help with focus and drive, are particularly useful for combat sports such as judo or wrestling where concentration is key.
In addition meat can provide a low fat form of sugar, and nuts can provide smart fats, stabilizing blood sugar for an extended period of time.
The recommended meat can come in the form of steak and eggs, or a salmon omelette, or lox and poached eggs.
Wherever he travels, Polequin says he brings a cooler filled with nuts and caviar. He says caviar is a favourite of Russian lifters because it aids the synthesis of acetylcholine.
Polequin suggests a six day rotation of meat and nuts, including buffalo meat patties, venison, turkey, beer, chicken breast and gluten free sausages, accompanied by macadamias, cashews, almonds, brazil nuts, hazelnuts and pistachios.
If you're allergic to nuts, the trainer recommends any of the following low glycemic fruits:
After breakfast, a tea spoon of fish oil will help all of this medicine go down!
indy100 top tip: If you've run out of meat, and you've paid for your caviar, eat that golden egg laying goose you presumably also own - but not the fatty parts.
