Twenty-two year old Arun Kumar was born with a unique deformity: four legs.

The two extra limbs grew on a second spinal column at the base of his back while he was still in his mother’s womb.

Kumar’s mum, Kokila Devi, said she feared something was wrong during an unusually painful birth:

During childbirth he got stuck and didn't come out without pain. And when he came out, all his limbs were the same size.

Although he can't move the extra pair of legs and one of them is permanently bent at an angle, he does have feeling in them.

When he was born, his uncle took him to a neighbouring town in order to have the legs removed, but the dangerous nature of the procedure meant that he was forced to go home.

Kumar's father had encouraged his son to live as best he could with the additional limbs, but the extra weight caused him pain. Eventually doctors in Delhi got wind of his condition, and took on his case, giving him MRI and CT scans. They seem optimistic about the operation.

Arun is looking forward to having just two legs:

If I get an operation and doctors take off my two extra legs, then I can also live a normal life. I may be able to move and walk properly like others. If they are willing to do an operation, then I'm ready.

You can find out if the operation is successful by tuning in to Barcroft TV’s Body Bizarre, at 10pm on Thursday night on TLC UK.
