Tory minister mocked for saying she'd work 'Saturdays and Sundays' to get Brexit done

We might not be scientists, but we’d be prepared to bet that more stupid things have been said by politicians since the EU referendum than in the entire history of human civilisation pre-2016.

Now a Tory minister has gone on TV to say something a bit silly. Because of course, they did.

Victoria Atkins the MP for Louth and Horncastle told Sky News’s Kay Burley that she would be willing to work “Saturdays and Sundays” to get Brexit over the line.

Yes, really.

As Brexit talks with the EU intensify, Atkins was asked how she plans to help get a Brexit deal secured once and for all.

She said:

Bring on working on Saturdays and Sundays, I think that’s the least we can do.

Burley jibbed at the MP, asking:

So, potentially working Sunday too?

To which the MP said:

Yeah, bring it on.

Naturally, people weren’t very impressed by the explanation.

Who doesn’t work weekends now and again, particularly when something as important as this needs to be done?

Indy100 has contacted Atkins for comment.
