Trump’s press secretary said the president could lose to Biden in resurfaced recordings

President Trump’s press secretary had previously praised Joe Biden before becoming a prominent Trump backer.

In her current role as press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany has dismissed Biden as “sleepy” and “socialist”.

But, previously, she described Biden as “funny and likeable”, “a man of the people” and someone who resonates with middle-class voters.

In a series of interviews from 2015, resurfaced by CNN, McEnany said that Republicans would struggle in a race between Trump and Biden.

In an appearance on AM970, she said:

I think the Republicans run into a problem if it is Joe Biden and if it is maybe Trump on the other side.

McEnany continued: “Joe Biden, one of the things he is remarkable at is really kind of being a man of the people and resonating with middle-class voters. Feeling like – coming off as human. His gaffes – as much as we make fun of them – to a certain extent they make him look human.”

She later described the juxtaposition between “man of the people” Biden and “tycoon” Trump as a “problem”.

In another interview, with Fox Business Network, McEnany said:

Joe Biden is a human and people will resonate with that.

She also described him as “funny and likeable”.

Responding to these comments, McEnany told CNN that she has since learned of Biden's "profound personal corruption" and said the former vice president has become "an empty vessel for the liberal elites and far-left."

In saying this, McEnany is parroting the lines frequently used by her boss.
