We've all slept in and skipped a shower - maybe you were running late, maybe you just decided to rinse the... 'essentials,' it's just an everyday fact of life.
But have you ever wondered what would happen if you did that for an entire year?
365 days. It's a long time.
According to experts, here's what would happen if you didn't wash for a whole year.
It doesn't sound good.
You’d smell
Cameron Rokhsar, an associate clinical professor of dermatology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York, told USA Today says this is because bacteria and dead skin would have built up, and mixed with sweat.
You might get infected
If you get a cut or graze, you might be more likely to develop an infection, according to Rokhsar, due to carrying more bacteria on your skin.
You’d develop growths
Caroyln Jacob, director of Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology, says the oilier parts of your body, such as armpits, neck and behind the ears, would collect dirt and pollutants.
Dead skin clumps would develop with the body’s oils. This would then become infected, and cause warty growths.
You’d get problems down there
Jacob says you’d be likely to get rashes, or yeast and inflammation that will be itchy and painful. And dead skin building between your toes could easily carry fungus that could be carried up to the groin.
Your head would itch
Dead skin would build up on your scalp, and your hair would become heavy with oils, mixed with dirt and pollutants. Just reading that is enough to make you itch.
Rokshar says it would take about a week to get back to normal after forgoing the shower for a year. Ploch says it could take weeks for the skin to return to normal.
So, no matter what gets in your way... Don't forget to shower people.
