Which animal species went extinct in the year you were born?

Which animal species went extinct in the year you were born?

A recent report showed lion numbers in parts of Africa will halve if major conservation efforts aren't made.

Based on the study, the authors recommend that the lion be regionally uplifted to ‘endangered’ in central and east Africa, where they are currently listed as ‘vulnerable’ on the IUCN Red List of threatened species.

Using data given to us by the IUCN and other sources, we have compiled a list of animals, now either critically endangered or extinct, by the year in which they were last seen, or a species was collected.

Simply scroll to the year you were born in to find your birthday animal.
