So this is why green peppers are so much cheaper and taste awful

Most of us have a vague idea about peppers; the red one tends to taste just a little bit sweeter than the others, and the green one usually ends up on the discounted isle at the supermarket.

Turns out there are key differences between the peppers and here's what makes the green pepper what it is.

  • The green pepper is actually just an unripe version of other peppers. This is what gives it its bitter aftertaste, and why it sometimes causes indigestion.

  • On the plus side, these have a longer shelf-life, as they can ripen at home (if in the right conditions).

  • And because they take less time for farmers to grow, they're also cheaper.

Didn't know? Now you do.
