Maintaining a relationship with another human can be difficult enough, but one woman claims to be in a serious relationship... with a ghost.
Amethyst Realm, a spiritual guidance counsellor, shared her romantic liaisons with a spirit on ITV's This Morning.
After six months of dating a ghost she met while in Australia, they are reportedly more in love than Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore in Ghost,
They have also apparently joined the Mile High Club... However that works.
In an interview on This Morning, Amethyst said:
I refer to it as him, because that's easier. He's very ancient, very wise, very kind. I would say [he has been on the planet] for a very long time.
She describes her boyfriend as something she could feel rather than see, that he was an 'emotional, physical presence'.
As a spiritual guidance counsellor, Amethyst is no stranger to ghostly encounters and she claims that she knew this one was different - that she had fallen in love.
The ghost had supposedly followed her back from Australia and Amethyst admitted sometimes being turned on by the ghost.
According to Amethyst: "It's difficult to explain in terms of normal, earthbound relationships. It's a bit deeper than that, we don't have a need for conversation."
In a recent interview she's tried to clarify how she and the ghost plan to have a child together.
"I've been looking into phantom pregnancies," she said, "and I believe that a phantom pregnancy is actually a real pregnancy but you have a phantom inside you rather than a human baby.
"The reason we don't ever manage to carry these to full term is that people don't understand... But I'm hoping through understanding what's going on with my body, I'll be able to."
Phantom pregnancies are quite emphatically not what Amethyst thinks they are. It's a medical term describing an abnormal condition in which signs of pregnancy such as nausea and abdominal swelling are present in a woman who is not pregnant.
