Some parents are more conservative than others, so things like tattoos and body piercings are kept on the DL.
But for one unfortunate Twitter user, a trip to the doctor became her inadvertent reveal.
Sydney Allenn uploaded a photo of an X-ray image and captioned it:
My mom [sic] found out I got my nipples pierced today.
That’s one way to do a big reveal.
People naturally had questions.
Why did she get an X-ray?
Did...it hurt?
Others shared their own X-ray-slash-nipple-piercing moments
There was also this clap back...
Twenty-year-old Sydney, from Clearwater Florida secretly got her nipples pierced back in June as a birthday gift from her sister.
She told BuzzFeed News her mum is ‘a bit conservative on appearances and hates tattoos and piercings.'
Since I don’t usually have my shirt off I thought it would be a very easy secret to keep.
And she kept it for a few months, but a check-up at the hospital changed that. She has syringomyelia, which is a rare condition that builds up spinal fluid in the spinal cord.
My mom [sic] saw my piercings as soon s the X-ray popped up and the doctor and I started laughing hysterically.
Her mum wasn’t impressed. ‘We’ll discuss it later,’ she said firmly.
Eventually, she accepted the piercings.
Phew.
