If you don't know who Newt Gingrich is, we're really sorry to have to deprive you of your innocence.

But if you are familiar with the life and times of the Republican former Speaker of the House, the contents of this article will not surprise you in the least.

Gingrich clearly got around to watching the universally panned London Has Fallen recently - a movie Rolling Stone described thus:

There are bad sequels, and then there's this Islamophobic, Trumptastic mess.

Gingrich, though, was quite the fan. He took to Twitter to tell his 1.5million followers that

London Has Fallen is an action packed movie which also is a sobering warning about the potential escalation of Islamic Supremacists efforts

The film came out in March and was slated for its scaremongering portrayal of terror attacks all over the capital and the insensitive release of a trailer just before the tenth anniversary of the 7/7 attacks.

Lots of kindly people have been pointing out that he doesn't need to worry, though. After all, the film is ~fictional~.

Applying Gingrich's logic to the plots of other Hollywood productions, to be fair, does yield some pretty interesting results:

Gingrich has been rumoured to be presumptive Republican Donald Trump's choice of running mate in the upcoming presidential election.

We almost wish he'd stick to the film criticism.
