The online encyclopedia, which anyone can edit, has helped countless students in last-minute essay panics, kept civil servants entertained and is now home to a mind-boggling 5,053,647 articles.

In a blog post on Thursday, the site revealed the most-edited pages in its short history.

Here's the top 15 from Wikipedia's first 15 years, with the figures showing the number of times each page has been amended:
