Game of Thrones: George RR Martin predicts ending of HBO show will 'cause debate'

If you are die-hard Game of Thrones fan then you will have not only watched the TV show but also consumed all of George R.R. Martin's five epic fantasy novels, of which the series is based upon.

However, as the acclaimed HBO series enters its eighth and final season, readers of the books have been left a little disgruntled as two of the final novels in the A Song of Fire and Ice series are still yet to be published,

Those that have been checking notes between the series and the books will have noticed that the two have taken significantly different paths in recent times which would suggest that they will also have different endings.

When asked about the potential difference between the two during an interview on 60 Mintues, Martin told presented Anderson Cooper that he doesn't believe his ending will be that dissimilar to that created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

I don’t think Dan and Dave’s ending is going to be that different from my ending because of the conversations we did have, but they may be on certain secondary characters, there may be differences.

And yeah, some of the people will have that. There will be a debate, I’m sure. I think a lot of people who say, ‘Oh, Dan and Dave’s ending is better than the one George gave us, it’s a good thing they changed it.’

And there will be a lot of people who say, ‘No, Dan and Dave got it wrong, George’s ending is better,’ and they will all fight on the internet.

There will be debate, and that’s fine. The worst thing for any work of art, be it movie or art, is to be ignored.

Whether there is any difference between the two remains to be seen as of the time of writing Martin is still said to be working on both novels, with no release date yet to be disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Game of Thrones TV show is set to conclude next month bringing the dramatised world of Westeros to, what is sure to be a shocking end.
