Katy Perry threw a bit of shade at Hollywood after Minnie Mouse was awarded with her very first Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
Speaking at the unveiling on Hollywood Boulevard on Monday, the Swish Swish singer commented on Mickey receiving his star a "brief" 40 years earlier. She said:
Seeing Minnie is like returning home, it is a special skill to bring joy to so many and she does it with an effortless bat of the lash.
So today – a brief 40 years after Mickey got his star – I am delighted to honour Minnie and her magic with hers.
Minnie Mouse happily accepted her tribute. She said:
This really is the best day ever.
In 1978, Mickey Mouse was the first cartoon character to gain a star on the famous Hollywood street. And now, on the year she turns 90, Minnie is finally receiving hers.
She made her debut in the 1928 short film Steamboat Willie, the first of more than 70 shorts and featurettes that she featured in.
Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger said in a statement:
Minnie Mouse has been a star and a fashion icon since she first burst onto the scene in the groundbreaking animated classic, Steamboat Willie.
The star of more than 70 movies during her illustrious career, Minnie has entertained millions of people around the world, touching hearts and bringing joy wherever she goes.
We’re thrilled to see her cultural influence and many achievements recognized with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
