Kendall Jenner has attracted the ire of her fellow models after she made a comment about being picky with the catwalks she chooses.
In an interview with Love magazine about her job, she told them:
Since the beginning we’ve been super selective about the shows I would do. I was never one of those girls who would do, like, 30 shows a season or whatever the fuck those girls do.
"More power to them," The 22-year-old added.
Models have taken to social media to criticise her tone-deaf comments.
Russian model Daria Strokous, 27, screengrabbed Jenner’s Instagram post, which featured her comments, and responded with:
‘Whatever the f**k those girls do’ is their very best to make their way up AND try to make some money so that they can provide for themselves and their families.
Oh, and it’s 70 shows a season by the way and we are all f**king proud of every single one of the girls that did it.
Another, model, 29-year-old Ginta Lapina pointed out that Jenner was privileged because of her background – and needed to recognise her position:
We all are hard-working and worked hard to be where we are. Nothing was given to us.
The 22-year-old has the might and influence of her family, the Kardashians, behind her. That’s a lot of cultural capital.
Trans model Teddy Quinlivan posted a long statement on her Instagram in response to Jenner’s comments.
As models we need to uplift each other. We all work extremely hard to pursue our dreams even the ‘girls who walk 30 shows a season or whatever the f**k those girls do.’
If you are lucky as a model you might made enough to not be in debt to your agency; maybe even move out of the model apartment…
…if you’re lucky. I’m privileged, I’m white, I’m a passable trans woman, my family doesn’t rely on my paycheck to survive. Unfortunately this isn’t the case for the vast majority of models who have to leave everything behind including their families in pursuit of a better life. Models dfon’t just come from Calabasas…they come from Somalia, The Siberian tundra, a rural Village in china…
In response to the backlash, Jenner said her words were "taken our of context".
She added: "I'm inspired by so many of these people I have had the good fortune to work alongside! There's no way I could EVER hate on that I want everyone to win. SLAY ALWAYS."
