Lil Nas X’s new sneaker drop, ‘Satan Shoes’, caused a stir this week because they feature a drop of human blood inside every shoe - now we know who the blood came from.

MSCHF, the brand involved in the sneaker creation, came up with customized Nike Air Max 97s for the musical artist. There are 666 pairs in existence, meaning that a fair bit of blood had to be spilled for the full production run.

Daniel Greenberg, the sneaker’s creator, revealed to Complex that the blood came from the designers themselves, rather than Lil Nas X, but he left more questions than answers when he was vague about how the blood was actually extracted.

“Not the best way, to say the least,” Greenberg said. “I could tell you; it’s just kind of graphic. But, like, not by any means a good way of doing it.” Regardless of what you think of the situation, the shoe managed to sell out in five minutes.

MSCHF is also known for Drake’s Holy Water shoes which is the complete opposite of this new release.

From NBA Stars to Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota, people took to social media to discuss their disdain for the shoe over the past day or so, and Nike is even suing the creator of Lil Nas X’s ‘Satan Shoes’ for trademark infringement.

“Our kids are being told that this kind of product is, not only okay, it’s “exclusive.” But do you know what’s more exclusive?, said Gov Noem.

“Their God-given eternal soul. We are in a fight for the soul of our nation. We need to fight hard. And we need to fight smart. We have to win.”
