Just as Spider-Man’s story was picking up steam in the MCU, he’s reportedly leaving it entirely.
After a breakdown in the deal between Disney and Sony, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige will no longer be producing the Spider-Man films.
Deadline reports that after Spider-Man: Far From Home becoming Sony’s highest-grossing film of all time, Tom Holland’s incarnation of Spidey will be leaving the universe.
The split comes as a result of Disney wanting more money, as you might expect. Naturally, the MCU stans are furious – and making memes to express their sadness.
Tom Holland’s performance as Spider-Man has been a big draw for the most recent Avengers films, and fans are hoping Disney and Sony can reach a new deal.
Today, Sony reacted to the news by releasing a statement via Twitter – they said:
Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterised recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise.
We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.
Hopefully, they’ll manage not to mess up Spider-Man 3...or Disney will snap Tom Holland back into the MCU.
As you can imagine, fans are devastated about this news and aren't looking forward to the prospect of Holland's web-slinger teaming up with Tom Hardy's Venom but some have taken it in good spirits.
