Tory MP mocked after accusing The 1975 of climate change hypocrisy

In news that we really didn't expect to be writing today Tory MP David Davies has accused British indie band The 1975 of hypocrisy because they are going on a world tour.

The group, who will be travelling to the likes of east Asia, Europe and the United States on their tour, have vocally supported climate change groups like Extinction Rebellion and the activist Greta Thunberg in recent months.

Thunberg features on the band's new album Notes on a Conditional Form contributing an essay to the opening track, with the money raised from the essay going directly to Extinction Rebellion.

This, therefore, is the crux of Davies annoyance with the band as he clearly feels that if the group are so against climate change then they shouldn't be using transport like planes.

In a letter that the MP for Monmouth shared on Twitter, he wrote:

Given your concern about a 'climate emergency,' I just wondered how you are going to get to these places? Are you travelling to Asia or the Trans-Siberian Express?

Or will you be sailing in a £4m super-yacht like your mate Greta?

Do tell us. We must silence any mean-minded sceptics who think it's a tad hypocritical to preach on the evils of carbon emissions one minute - then jet across the globe the next!

In any case, there may be a 'climate emergency' but any reasonable person can see that wealthy musicians being unable to fly where they want, to play gigs, would be a far greater emergency.

Davies unusual approach to criticising the band has only earned him a downpour of mockery for criticising a group of musicians for going on tour when there are more pressing matters at hand.

Davies' letter also prompted a response from the group's manager Jamie Oborne who touched on the current political crisis engulfing Westminster and accused the MP of try to seek 'five minutes of fame' before asking the government 'is this the best we have?!'
