The real reason why Joss Whedon quit Twitter

Joss Whedon is the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and director of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The filmmaker deleted his Twitter account on Monday, with some reports suggesting this was due to a "rabid" backlash from feminists over a rape joke apparently made in the popular superhero film, and a separate plotline involving Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow character.

Now Whedon has called those reports "horseshit", telling BuzzFeed he left Twitter as it is "the least quiet place I've ever been in my life" and he wanted to focus on his writing.

I saw a lot of people say, ‘Well, the social justice warriors destroyed one of their own!’ It’s like, Nope. That didn’t happen.

I have been attacked by militant feminists since I got on Twitter. That’s something I’m used to. Every breed of feminism is attacking every other breed, and every subsection of liberalism is always busy attacking another subsection of liberalism, because god forbid they should all band together and actually fight for the cause.

Critics: consider yourself slayed.
