Gibraltar starting XI v Poland
Gibraltar starting XI v Poland

Gibraltar made their long-awaited competitive football debut last night. Sadly, they were comprehensively beaten 7-0 by a Poland side possessing one of the most prolific forwards in European football: Robert Lewandowski.

And here is Poland's:

Sadly for Gibraltar, things don't look like getting much easier any time soon. Their next game will be against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin, before they welcome Georgia at home. Well, we say 'at home' but they're actually playing their home fixtures at the Algarve Stadium in Portugal - about 600km from Gibraltar.

After that, they travel to Berlin's Olympic Stadium to face world champions Germany... Here's that Gibraltar XI again:

1 Jordan Perez (Fireman)

2 Scott Wiseman (Professional footballer for Preston North End)

3 Joseph Chipolina (Admin clerk)

4 David Artell (Crewe Alexandra Academy Director)

5 Ryan Casciaro (Policeman)

6 (C) Roy Chipolina (Customs official)

7 Lee Casciaro (Policeman)

8 Rafael Bado (Storeman)

9 Kyle Casciaro (Shipping agent)

10 Liam Walker (Professional footballer for Bnei Yehuda)

16 Brian Perez (Electrical Dept)

More: 17 of 20 Premier League clubs made losses from summer transfer window
