This clever trick will let you know which companies are selling your data

Email spam and junk mail is a fact of modern life. Whenever you sign up to literally anything, it is pretty much a given that the company is harvesting all your data to sell off to multiple mailing lists.

One Reddit user however has a clever little trick to find out who is responsible for each piece of junk you’ve been getting. User mc1nc4 says:

When you sign up for anything online, put the website's name as your middle name. That way when you receive spam/advert emails, you will know who sold your info.

On the thread, other people have been sharing stories of how they’ve been a bit more creative with the trick.

If I have to put my name on something that I know isn't a purchase or would require my real first name, I just put down Turkey Gravy.

Been doing this since I had the internet 10+ years ago. Every time I get a piece of mail addressed to Mr. Turkey Gravy, I know immediately to disregard and throw away.

I either use Max Power from The Simpsons or something vaguely Nordic like Torg Bjornfelderson. A few times a year I get mail addressed to Max Power and it makes me laugh.
