The Daily Show mocks disgraced Fox News anchor’s ‘North Korea style’ tributes to Trump

Who is the greatest, perfect, smart, energised and sets a standard above mere mortals?

That will be former president Donald Trump according to one former Fox News anchor.

The Daily Show bid farewell to Lou Dobbs with a montage which called him the “most North Korean broadcaster America has ever seen" in reference to the host’s ebullient praise for Trump.

Lou Dobbs Tonight was cancelled the day after the presenter was personally named in a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit filed by Smartmatic

The electronic voting technology company has accused Fox News and Fox Business of falsely claiming its software was used to rig the 2020 election against the former president.

Some of Dobbs’ stand-out lines about Trump included that he will be regarded as the country’s “greatest” president ever, there will be “century after century of veneration” and that there was “sunshine beaming throughout” the White House.

He claimed the former president "comes from a pretty good gene pool”, is “pretty close to perfect” and has “already set a standard for presidents that most mortals won’t be able to meet.”

In another clip included in comedian Trevor Noah’s programme, the former Fox host said of Trump: “This is a man who multi-tasks. He is smart. He is filled with energy. Nobody is a close second.”

Dobbs even concluded one of his shows with this line: “Have a great weekend. The president makes such a thing possible for us all.”

The footage also showed Trump repeating Dobbs’ lavishing praise during speeches.

Social media users reacted to the montage.

Fox previously ran a series of unusual news packages debunking baseless claims of electoral fraud made on its own network after being accused of a “disinformation campaign” against the company.
