Zayn and Gigi's Vogue shoot is enraging people

A Vogue article appearing to define gender fluidity as a heterosexual couple who share clothes once in a while, has upset a number of people online.

The article, titled “Hadid and Malik are part of a new generation embracing gender fluidity” talks about the new “blasé attitude towards gender,” and draws on a conversation between couple Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik.

Their conversation went like this.

Hadid:

I shop in your closet all the time, don’t I?

Malik:

Yeah, but same. What was that T-shirt I borrowed the other day?

Hadid:

The Anna Sui?

Malik:

Yeah, I like that shirt... It doesn't matter if it was made for a girl.

Hadid:

Totally. It's not about gender. It's about, like, shapes. And anyway, it's fun to experiment...

People online are quite angry about the magazine's apparent link between gender fluidity and simply borrowing clothes, and have accused the long-running publication of being out-of-touch with reality.

When we enquired about the negative feedback online, a Vogue spokesperson told indy100:

The story was intended to highlight the impact the gender-fluid, non-binary communities have had on fashion and culture. We are very sorry the story did not correctly reflect that spirit – we missed the mark. We do look forward to continuing the conversation with greater sensitivity.
