Perhaps it’s the hype for the new Spider-Man film No Way Home but there is a lot of nostalgia going around at the moment for the original Spidey trilogy from the 2000s.

The trailer for the new film starring Tobey Maguire and Zendaya dropped a few weeks back but if you’ve spent any time on the internet in the past few days you’ll have seen an image from the original 2002 film starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst doing the rounds as a meme.

The image involves Dunst as Mary Jane looking behind her as she answers her boss from the diner where she works, who had just interrupted a conversation between her and love interest Peter Parker aka Spider-Man.

However, the scene has been reinterpreted by those funny folks on the internet who have instead flipped the scene to make it appear that Mary Jane is defending Peter’s choices, who does, in all fairness, look quite forlorn and sad in the image.

Some have even replaced Peter with other famous faces and other moments from pop culture history for extra added hilarity.

Much like the Anakin Skywalker and Padme Star Wars scene that went viral earlier this year, the moment has been taken out of context but who needs context when the memes are so funny.

You’ve gotta love the internet...sometimes.

Anyway, we can’t imagine this scene showing up in No Way Home but we can only hope. The movie will be released in cinemas 17th December.
