You may have missed it, but George Osborne held prime minister's questions yesterday while David Cameron was in Poland and Romania.
One of the main takeaways (...) was shadow business secretary Angela Eagle seemingly getting the better of the chancellor on a number of occasions.
What was widely missed, however, was Osborne's answer to a question from Labour MP Rupa Huq, who raised the issue of two curry restaurants a week closing "due to government policies":
As a fan himself, will he review the situation? He once likened the elements of a strong economy to those of a good curry, so will he take action to head off the coming curry crisis?
Osborne's reply, delivered to cheers from the Tory benches, seemed innocuous enough:
We all enjoy a great British curry, but we want the curry chefs to be trained in Britain so that we can provide jobs for people here in this country. That is what our immigration controls provide.
But then YouTube user Red Cubed put it next to a joke from a 1979 episode of BBC1 sketch show Not the Nine O'Clock News, in which Rowan Atkinson's anonymous minister delivers a speech at a Tory conference.
