Brett Kavanaugh reportedly started a fight at a UB40 concert in 1985

British reggae band UB40 have unexpectedly found themselves involved in the latest probe into Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

This seemingly unlikely link comes courtesy of a New York Timesreport about a bar fight at a September 1985 UB40 concert that Kavanaugh was said to be involved in.

An altercation at the gig, which took place in New Haven, Connecticut, is believed to have involved Kavanaugh and his Yale University classmates, during their junior year.

The report states that Kavanaugh instigated the fight by throwing ice at another man, who he and his friends thought might be the lead singer of the group, Ali Campbell.

Former NBA player Chris Dudley is also said to have been involved in the fight. Chad Ludington, a classmate of Kavanaugh's at Yale, issued a statement to the New York Times about the incident.

Ludington says that they were staring at the man trying to figure out if he was Campbell. This irritated the man who asked them to stop.

This allegedly provoked Kavanaugh into swearing at the man and he then "threw his beer at the guy".

Ludington adds:

The guy swung at Brett. 

[Dudley] took his beer and smashed it into the head of the guy, who by now had Brett in an embrace.

I then tried to pull Chris back, and a bunch of other guys tried to pull the other guy back.

I don’t know what Brett was doing in the melee, but there was blood, there was glass, there was beer and there was some shouting, and the police showed up.

The victim of the fight was identified as Dom Cozzolino who was reportedly "bleeding from the right ear".

Kavanaugh, who has been accused by two women of sexual assault, has been described as acting aggressively when drinking

The White House, Mr. Dudley, Mr Cozzolino and UB40 have not issued a statement in response to the report.
