Donald Trump pretended to write and everyone is making the same joke

Donald Trump's inauguration as 45th President of the United States will take place at noon local time (5pm GMT) on Friday.

The president-elect posted a photograph of himself, supposedly writing the inaugural address, yesterday to Instagram and later to Twitter

It's all a bit staged.

It looks like he's using a large marker, he's supposedly high up the first page of his notepad, there's a tacky statue of an eagle on the desk, and he's squinting into the camera like he's trying to remember the meaning of the word "indivisible".

People also think he kicked out a receptionist from their chair to take the photo, although a closer look at the tiles in the background appear to throw this popular theory into doubt:

Either way, everyone is making a variation of the same joke.

It's all a bit like Twitter is screaming from the bottom of Buffalo Bill's basement pit.

Not us though. We're awaiting the most impressive and transcendent oratory since John F. Kennedy:

In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility—I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it—and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.

And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.

There's your bar, Donald.
