As Donald Trump isn't attending the White House Correspondents' dinner, the perfect stand-in has been found

The White House Correspondents' Dinner, founded in 1914 is an annual event attended by the most talented journalists in the world and celebrates the integrity of the profession.

And Donald Trump has announced he will not be in attendance.

The last time a US President missed the prestigious event was in 1981, because the President at the time, Ronald Reagan, was recovering from an assassination attempt.

It seems Donald Trump is making his distaste for the press clearer as the days go by. On Friday the White House blocked CNN, BBC, New York Times and LA Times from a press gaggle.

In all fairness, previous White House Correspondents' dinners probably aren't the best memories for Trump. In 2011 Barack Obama roasted the him by playing a scene from the Lion King before presenting his birth certificate after accusations he wasn't born in the US.

In 2016, then candiate Trump skipped the dinner, but could not avoid a roasting once more, at the hands of Obama:

You've got a room full of reporters, celebrities, cameras, and he says no? This dinner too tacky for The Donald? What could he possibly be doing instead? Is he at home, eating a Trump Steak - tweeting out insults to Angela Merkel? What's he doing?

The Republican establishment is incredulous that he is their most likely nominee - incredulous, shocking. They say Donald lacks the foreign policy experience to be President. But, in fairness, he has spent years meeting with leaders from around the world: Miss Sweden, Miss Argentina, Miss Azerbaijan.

But if The Donald won't attend, who can go in his stead?

People on Twitter have the answer:

That's right: Alec Baldwin.

They say the SNL comedian has better jokes...

Let's be honest, that's entirely true...

'Help us Alec Baldwin' is a rallying cry:

Please.

'Spicey' Melissa McCarthy was also raised an option, it is a dinner for the press after all.

Because Melissa-as-Press-Secretary is a great piece of entertainment:

C'mon Alec, do us a solid?
