How Ellen DeGeneres defended Oprah, took on Trump and enraged the alt-right all at the same time

Ellen DeGeneres has defended her friend Oprah Winfrey after Donald Trump lashed out at the television personality on Twitter.

Trump was responding to Oprah's interview on 60 Minutes, where she discussed the political divide in America with voters in Michigan.

The President claimed that Oprah looked "insecure" and that her questions were "biased" and her "facts incorrect".

He also stated that he hoped that she would run for Presidency just show she could "be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!"

Although this tweet wasn't about her, Ellen took exception to Trump attacking Oprah in such a manner and in a masterful opening monologue for the most recent episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she gave the POTUS a real dressing down.

The 60-year-old compared Oprah to George Washington (whose birthday is February 22) and used clips to show how Oprah didn't suffer from any insecurities and how she was able to help people, unlike Trump.

You can watch the full monologue in the video below.

The killer line from Ellen has to be the following:

I mean, George Washington may be the father of our country, but Oprah is the mother of our country.

As you can imagine, Ellen's defence of Oprah has gone down very well with fans of both women.

However, it has only managed to trigger individuals who are of a more, shall we say, right-wing persuasion.

Oprah, who appeared on the said episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, took the opportunity to respond to Trump's words.

Did anyone say Winfrey/DeGeneres 2020?
