Golden Globes: Sandra Oh delivers heartfelt speech about diversity in opening monologue

Many of the headlines coming out of the 2019 Golden Globes was the big surprise victories for Bohemian Rhapsody.

The film's win stirred some controversy and nearly overshadowed a much more important and resonating moment earlier in the evening.

In the past, the opening monologue at the Golden Globes has been an opportunity for the host to make some pretty outrageous jokes about the stars in attendance.

That was still present this year as hosts Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh made fun of Lady Gaga, Jim Carrey, Ryan Coogler and Michael Douglas.

Not all the jokes hit the mark, with one about Freddie Mercury sparking some criticism, but there was a touching moment from Oh towards the end of the speech.

The 47-year-old actress, who won Best Actress in a Drama TV Series for her role in Killing Eve, noted the evening as a "moment of change" and paid tribute to the diverse amount of talent that had been nominated and were in attendance.

I said 'yes' to the fear of being on the stage tonight because I wanted to be here, and look out into this audience and witness this moment of change

I'm not fooling myself, next year could be different, it probably will be, but right now this moment is real. Because I see you, all of these faces of change, and now, so will everyone else.

As soon as people heard her heartfelt words, the took to Twitter to thank and quote her.

However, many were unimpressed with the one person who chose to laugh at one point during the speech.

Oh's acceptance speech later in the evening also drew a lot of love and affection, with many people adoring the tribute she paid to her parents, who were in the audience.
