A little help from your Instagram followers can go a long way.

Cloe Jordan, a 21-year-old Instagram user from Wolverhampton, has said that taking a bikini selfie helped save her life

.

According to the Huffington Post, Jordan had previously dismissed the mole above her stomach as harmless, despite the fact it was changing size and colour.

Tired of feeling self conscious about it in selfies, she had it checked out, and discovered it was in fact a sign of melanoma.

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that can spread to other organs of the body, according to nhs.co.uk.

One of the symptoms is a new mole, usually in a place which get a lot of sun exposure.

Jordan was able to have the mole removed by surgery thanks to getting it checked out.

In April she posted photos of her stomach, before and after surgery.

NHS England has produced an ABCDE of Moles, which can be used to identify and check them for signs of something more sinister.

Cloe, who is still undergoing treatment after her surgery in March, told Huffington Post you can never be too careful when it comes to moles.

I’ve been overwhelmed with messages of support since posting my story online and I’ve lots of girls messaging me with photos of moles that they’re concerned about.

I would tell anyone who has any worries over skin changes to get themselves checked by a doctors, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
