Research in selected nations has revealed Thailand as the most patriotic country, with 58 per cent of respondents to a YouGov survey saying they were ‘very’ patriotic.

China and the US followed, while Great Britain trailed in fourth of the countries surveyed. Germany was the least patriotic, with only 9 per cent saying they felt ‘very’ patriotic, compared to 11 per cent who said ‘not at all’.

In addition, patriotism in the UK is waning through the generations, as only 15 per cent of 18-24 year olds said they were ‘very’ patriotic, compared to 16 per cent who said not at all.

In comparison, 49 per cent of those over the age of 60 felt ‘very’ patriotic, and 33 per cent felt ‘slightly’.

We know what you're thinking: "How dare British youth feel less so than their parents? It's not as if they're worse off."

Conservative voters were the most patriotic (when 'very' and 'slightly' were combined), 85 per cent thereof, and Labour voters were least likely, with 57 per cent saying they felt so.

London was narrowly the least patriotic region, with 65 per cent, and the rest of the South of England was the most, with 69 per cent.
