Trump says that he 'can't imagine the courts will allow an impeachment' - but there's a problem

It appears that Donald Trump is starting to feel the pressure as talks of impeachment are hotting up but, worryingly for him, he doesn't appear to know how impeachments work.

Following special counsel Robert Mueller's speech yesterday, where he not so subtly suggested that Congress read his investigation into the Russia probe as there is probably enough stuff in there to instigate an impeachment, Trump has been on the rampage and has literally claimed that he had nothing to do with Russia helping him get elected.

This outburst from the president came shortly before he met members of the press outside of the White House where he was asked if he was concerned about getting impeached, to which Trump replied with a piece of wisdom which showed that he doesn't have the faintest clue how an impeachment works.

I can’t imagine the courts allowing it.

I’ve never gone into it — I never thought that would even be possible to be using that word.

To me it’s a dirty word, the word ‘impeach.’ It’s a dirty, filthy, disgusting word.

The problem here is that the courts, not even the Supreme Court, has the power to overrule an impeachment. The process is entirely down to Congress. It's even in the constitution.

The House... shall have the sole Power of Impeachment. The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments.

This isn't the first time that he has made this claim either. On 24 April he said he would appeal to the US Supreme Court if they tried to impeach him.

Basically, someone really needs to tell the president how impeachments actually work otherwise he is going to continue making a fool of himself which would be a shame for Twitter users who enjoy having a laugh at the president's expense.
