Trump once said only a 'weak and ineffective' president like Obama would try and start a war with Iran to get re-elected

The world is reeling from president Trump’s airstrike on Iran, which the US claims has killed one of Iran’s top war generals.

Qassem Soleimani, who leads Iran’s elite Quds force, was killed in what was deemed by the US as “defensive action.”

The move has further escalated tensions with Iran, and it remains to be seen how they’ll respond. One US official told Politico:

I can’t believe it.

The immediate concern for me is: What’s the next step from Iran? Is this the beginning of a regional conflagration?

In the aftermath of the strike, “World War III” began to trend on Twitter. Trump then tweeted an American flag, to insinuate that he’s sticking up for the US.

Trump’s critics have pointed out that the sudden escalation of tensions with Iran could be linked to the upcoming 2020 election.

There’s even a video of Trump himself accusing Barack Obama of trying to start a war with Iran to “get re-elected”.

In the 2011 clip, Trump rants from his office in New York, saying:

Our president will start a war with Iran because he has absolutely no ability to negotiate.

He’s weak and ineffective.

So the only way he figures that he’s going to get re-elected, as sure as you’re sitting there, is to start a war with Iran.

And there’s also a tweet, because there’s always a tweet.
