Women all across the world are celebrating the annual International Women's Day.

It's a time to look back on the achievements of women through history and reflect on how far we still have to go to achieve true equality.

People will also be participating in a ‘A Day Without Women’ marches worldwide, to show how vital women are for a functioning society.

While this is all going on; Eric Abetz, an Australian politician has raised a few eyebrows after posting to his public Facebook about women.

This InternationalWomensDay we should pay tribute to someone who has dedicated her life in service to her people. Queen Elizabeth II has demonstrated that hard work and commitment earn you far more respect than demanding that people make way and artificially promote you simply because your sex.

The Queen of England. That's who you're going with?

Not Malala or Rosa Parks or Russia's Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space?

No, you're going with a member of the royal family, possibly the only person whose wealth and status was inherited.

What...?

Confusion is everywhere:

Others are convinced it's a somewhat tasteless joke:

Also, she didn't fight for anything, not really.

If she had a brother...

Abetz also once backed false claims that linked abortion to breast cancer.

Right.
