Five of Ivanka Trump’s most awkward moments as she celebrates her 40th birthday

Ivanka Trump turns 40 today. From kickstarting her career as a teen model, creating her own clothing line and publishing a book on success to tagging along to her dad’s presidential duties, Donald Trump’s first daughter has done it all in the last four decades.

But, with great responsibility comes great notable odd encounters and gaffes, and it’s safe to say her life in the limelight has birthed some incredibly awkward moments.

Here are some of our favourites:

Ivanka Trump accidentally tagging Meat Loaf instead of her dad

Ahead of a crucial election to support the Republican campaign in Georgia, Ivanka shared a photo of her and her dad on the plane. The former president is shown invested in his phone, while Ivanka smiles away at the camera.

The post got an incredible amount of social media attention, but it wasn’t because of the image itself. Instead, users were quick to notice that the 40-year-old tagged Meat Loaf instead of her dad, Donald Trump.

Congratulating Boris Johnson on becoming prime minister of “United Kingston”

Ivanka was left red faced after taking to Twitter to congratulate Boris Johnson on his leadership victory in 2019: “Congratulations @BorisJohnson on becoming the next Prime Minister of the United Kingston.”

While the heartfelt sentiment was there, she accidentally misspelt one crucial word which sent Twitter into hysterics.

Her 260-page book on how to achieve success: ‘Success isn’t something that happens to you; you happen to it’

In 2009, Ivanka wanted to share her words of wisdom about how young women could “achieve success in any field” after lessons from her father and own experiences.

So, she wrote a book and it’s safe to say, some statements were somewhat confusing: “Success isn't something that happens to you; you happen to it", she said.

One slight issue with that, as many pointed out – she got a White House role while being the daughter of the president.

"Perception is more important than reality,” she explained. “If someone perceives something to be true, it is more important than if it is in fact true.”

She then suggested for people to not go out their way to correct a false assumption if it works in their favour.

"This doesn't mean you should be duplicitous or deceitful, but don't go out of your way to correct a false assumption if it plays to your advantage", she added.

The painstakingly awkward moment she got pushed out of a presidential chat

In 2019, Ivanka made an appearance at the G-20 Summit Osaka, Japan – because when your dad’s the president, this is the norm.

In the clip, Ivanka was shown struggling to get a word in, in a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Theresa May, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and IMF managing director Christine Lagarde.

In an awkward turn of events, she was seemingly snubbed which birthed the #UnwantedIvanka meme across social media.

The 40-year-old still asks “daddy” for permission

There’s been numerous unsettling exchanges between Donald and his daughter – like the time he told The View: “I've said if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her.”

During a speech in North Dakota, the former president told the crowd: “She's so good, she wanted to make the trip. She said, 'Dad, can I go with you?’”

Trump was quick to correct himself: “She said actually, 'Daddy, can I go with you?' I like that, right?”

Ivanka would have been 35 at the time.
