People are tweeting ‘Happy Brexit Day’ to mock Boris Johnson missing another deadline

Boris Johnson’s promise to get the UK out of the EU by 31 October has backfired badly after missing another Brexit deadline.

The prime minister based his campaign to be Conservative leader around claiming he would deliver Brexit by the October deadline and even claimed he would rather “die in a ditch” than delay.

But after parliament blocked a no-deal Brexit, Johnson was forced to ask for an extension to 31 January – more than three and a half years after the 2016 EU referendum.

The Conservatives were even claiming Johnson would not ask for a delay as recently as 19 October.

Of course, later that day, the prime minister did ask for a Brexit extension, and people have been more than happy to remind Johnson of his latest failure.

Even Julia Hartley-Brewer, a prominent Brexit-supporting journalist, seemed to be mocking Johnson this morning.

And it wasn’t only the prime minister who made a promise he couldn’t keep – just look at some of his supporters.

Tory MP Mark Francois bizarrely claimed that the country would “explode” if Brexit wasn’t delivered by 31 October.

While Katie Hopkins was so certain the UK would leave by Halloween, she made this horrifying claim…

Thankfully, Hopkins has not been spotted by the Apprentice cafe this morning.
