According to the Dictionary, the word "dankness" is defined as the following:

Unpleasantly moist or humid; damp and, often, chilly

or

Slang. (of marijuana) excellent; high quality

or

Slang. (of an internet meme) passe or cliched: out of touch; having missed the cultural zeitgeist

If all that makes sense to you then congratulations – you official understand internet memes and references to marijuana. And so does Donald Trump Jr.

On Thursday, the son of the President responded to a tweet from NBC News journalist Andrea Mitchell, which questioned the release of a controversial memo claiming the FBI abused their surveillance of the 2016 Trump campaign.

The FBI has denied these accusations from the White House due to several inaccuracies said to be contained in the document, as reported by Mashable.

Mitchell asked how the White House could justify releasing such a document, to which Trump Jr replied:

"Democracy dies in the dankness," is an attempted reference to the Washington Post's motto of "Democracy dies in the darkness."

Quite how the 40-year-old managed to misspell darkness quite so badly is a mystery as 'r' and 'n' are quite far apart on a standard keyboard.

Needless to say, the rest of Twitter had a field day with this.

The Washington Post reddit page was also changed to represent their new motto.

Someone even wrote a poem about it.

Luckily, rather than being a grump about it, Trump Jr didn't delete the tweet and instead replied to it, jokingly acknowledging his typo.

Goodness. The Trump's actually showcasing a bit of humanity? We need a lie-down.
