The movement for LGBT+ rights is signposted by remarkable images of resistance.

In America, where the Trump administration is chipping away at LGBT+ rights – with the president introducing a ban on trans people serving in the military and pledging to hinder efforts to outlaw legal discrimination against LGBT+ people – the fight for LGBT+ acceptance continues.

At a pro-LGBT+ demo in Washington DC, LGBT+ rights protesters had to contend with rival protests by far-right groups and right-wing media figures.

Though, when confronted with a right-wing media host, protesters responded in a symbolic way.

A group of drag protesters drowned the host out by waving their fans loudly and in sync.

The group are members of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an organisation who have been fighting for LGBT+ rights for over 40 years.

The video quickly went viral on social media, where people were moved by the group’s tenacity in the face of intolerance.
