Unless you've been living under a rock (or have zero interest in sport) you might have heard that there was a little boxing match in Las Vegas last night.

The much-hyped 'fight of the century' between boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and MMA superstar Conor McGregor is now in the history books, and in all honesty it played out fairly predictably.

Mayweather, who had won his previous 49 fights, managed to defeat the outspoken Irishman by TKO in the tenth round.

It sounds pretty routine but it was far from easy for the boxer, who announced his retirement after the victory.

Given that McGregor had never actually taken part in a professional boxing match before, it was an incredible effort from the current UFC Lightweight Champion and definitely silenced some of his critics.

Much of the build up to the fight had been focused on how much each man would be earning, with ESPNprojecting that the fight on a whole would earn around $606.1m.

When it's all said and done there is only one thing that we care about and that is funny tweets and there were plenty to choose from.

Most of them started long before the fight even begun, as the charismatic McGregor had his fists taped while he was still in his suit.

Not to be upstaged, Mayweather made his way to the ring in a mask which made him look like Bruce Wayne before he actually gets a costume in Batman Begins.

When the fight began, McGregor's little jab on Mayweather's nose had everyone in stitches.

Some people noticed similarities between the fight and a famous episode of The Simpsons, which has a habit of correctly predicting things.

There was potentially a heist taking place in the T-Mobile Arena too. Somebody should make a movie about that.

One of the reasons for McGregor's loss could be related to his ring team, which seem a little under qualified.

Our commiserations go out to all of Ireland...

... even if it is a little hard to understand McGregor's thick accent.

Of course there was an old Donald Trump tweet about the fight. Seriously is there anything he hasn't tweeted about?

At the end of the day it was a bit like an expensive episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

So, when's the next fight going to be lads?
