If the UK named a 'second capital', most people would like it to be Manchester

Despite traditionally being seen as the country's second city, Birmingham is clearly not thought of in that way by Britons in the 21st century.

Instead, it is Manchester which came top of a YouGov poll which asked people to name the metropolis they would like to see as the number two to London.

Here's the top 10 in order (with percentage of respondents in brackets):

1. Manchester (30)

2. Birmingham (20)

3. Edinburgh (12)

4. Leeds (7)

5. Glasgow (5)

6. Liverpool (3)

7. Sheffield (3)

8. Bristol (2)

9. Wakefield (0)

10. Bradford (0)

YouGov asked 1,494 people to name their choice to be the UK's second capital from a list of the country's 10 most populous cities (other than London).
