Couple finds $1.8 million winning lottery ticket while tidying their house for Thanksgiving

If you’ve been putting off tidying your house, you should use this for inspiration.

Most people would count themselves lucky if they found some loose change while cleaning up ahead of Thanksgiving, but one Louisiana couple have had the luckiest find ever.

Tina and Harold Ehrenberg were tidying their home to prepare for their family coming over when they found some old lottery tickets.

When they checked the numbers, they discovered one of them was a winner worth $1.8 million (£1.4 million).

They found the ticket in the nick of time too, as they only had two weeks left to claim to jackpot.

“We kept checking the numbers again and again!” Tina Ehrenberg said. "Plus, I called the winning numbers hotline over and over."

“I kept waiting for something to go wrong,” said Harold.

Louisiana lottery rules mean the ticket, from 6 June, had to be claimed within 180 days of being drawn.

While the Ehrenbergs must have had a bigger Thanksgiving than usual, they're not planning to spend their winnings all at once.

“We don’t have any plans to buy anything crazy or go on any big trips,” Tina said.

“The most fun is going to be depositing that check!” Harold added.
