Paul Ryan, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, made a big mistake on Twitter last night.
The 48-year-old Republican was boasting on social media about the new G.O.P. tax plan, which was approved in December.
Ryan's Twitter account shared a story about a secretary taking home a cool $78 a year in savings, pointing out that it was enough to cover a Pennsylvanian secretary's annual Costco membership, which is around $60.

Whatever Ryan's original intention was, it obviously backfired.
Twitter users are letting him know that they think the tweet, which has since been deleted, was horribly misjudged at best.
After all, it is unlikely that $78 is going to improve any families' lives dramatically and, if so, they might not want to spend the small savings on a membership for a major retailer.
Several Democrats also called Ryan out.

Others decided to show him just how they will spend their extra $1.50 by using the hashtag #WithABuckFiftyAWeek.
