This teenage girl looking for her birth parents discovered her brother was her best friend

Two teenage best friends both conceived via IVF have discovered they're half-siblings after requesting information about their sperm donor.

Georgia Bond and Jack Bowman from Liverpool have been friends most of their lives - they've always known they were both conceived via IVF and have even joked about having the same sperm donor. It turned out they were right all along.

Sharing the news on Facebook and Twitter Georgia said

A few weeks ago we found out we were able to access details about our donors and donor conceived siblings.

So Jack received his first telling him he had a sister born in 1998 which resulted in me requesting mine for that small chance we could actually be.

After weeks of sitting by the letter box with both excitement and dread. Today we found we have the same sperm donor so we genuinely are brother and sister after all.

Happiest person ever right now. To all those who were IVF, request your details - best thing I've ever done. Miracles can happen.

The pair's discovery was helped by the Human Fertilisation and Embryo Authority, who keep a record of all births as a result of assisted conception treatments from UK fertility clinics from 1 August 1991.

Some Twitter users have pointed out that it would have been a little bit awkward if the pair became more than just 'best mates' - but Georgia tweeted saying his is not the case.

Over 400,00 babies have been born through sperm, egg and embryo donation in the UK over the past 20 years.
