Halsey appeared on The Voice’s finale episode, where she performed her new track Without Me.
It was a seamless performance piece with dancer Jade Chynoweth, and it was beautiful and awesome. The studio audience thought so, as did some viewers online.
Others however, criticised her performance as ‘inappropriate’ for television – just because she was dancing with a woman.
Some said it wasn't the erotic dance between two women that bothered them it was the 'vulgarity'.
Halsey's fans came through with the defence
Eventually, Halsey took to Twitter and clapped back at the homophobic responses:
Represention [sic] matters. Thanks @NBCTheVoice for giving a space for this vision to come to life. and thank you @JadeChynoweth for being an incredible human who used her body like the ultimate instrument for this collaboration.
Very proud of the emotional performance i did with @JadeChynoweth on @NBCTheVoice tonight. And also very proud to have pissed off thw [sic] homophobic viewers at home who missed the message. Thanks for watching.
