Trump insists 'chosen one' claim was simply 'sarcasm'

President Donald Trump, as opposed to his usual tactic of doubling down on any controversial statement, has claimed his recent “chosen one” statement was in fact a joke.

During discussions this week regarding the trade feud war with China, Trump claimed he is the “chosen one” to deal with decades of trade corruption in Beijing. His exact words were remarkable even by his own standards:

Somebody said this is Trump’s trade war. It’s not my trade war. This is a trade war that should have taken place a long time ago by a lot of other presidents. Somebody had to do it. I am the chosen one. Somebody had to do it, so I took on China. I took on China on trade, and you know what? We’re winning.

Trump has now backtracked and claimed the whole thing was a gag when questioned by a reporter.

It was sarcasm. It was joking, we were all smiling. And a question is just fake news.

If in doubt, play the hits. Fake news it is.
