As everyone is probably well aware, Donald Trump is currently in hospital being treated for Covid-19.
The president was taken to Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre over the weekend, and yesterday he tweeted a video announcing that he was going to “pay a little surprise to some of the great patriots that we have out on the street.”
It turns out the little surprise was some bizarre form of meet and greet and photo op. Trump left his hospital suite to drive by his supporters via motorcade.
Considering that he potentially exposed the Secret Service agents to the virus just for some strange publicity stunt, the president was criticised by medical experts and politicians.
Ironically, Melania Trump, who also has Covid-19, said that she should not visit her husband in hospital because it would “expose the agents who would drive her there and the medical staff who would walk her up to him.”
It was a different story with his supporters. In one video taken during Trump’s drive-by, one fan could be heard saying that he would “die for him”, like he was at a Kid Rock concert.
“I will die for that man, happily,” he said. “Anyone wanna mess with him, you mess with me first. He is a hero, that man.”
At this point, nothing feels surprising. Sigh.
