The White House tweeted a picture of Trump hugging the US flag and people are lost for words

During his now-infamous speech at CPAC on Saturday, Donald Trump gave a rare display of affection to the good old stars and stripes by literally hugging the flag on stage.

It was one of several bizarre things that the president said during his more than two-hour speech, but embracing the actual flag is not something anyone would have guessed he would have done.

Another thing no one would have expected was for the official White House twitter account to actually tweet an image on the moment captioned simply with 'America!'

Yes, that is an actual tweet that has come from supposedly the most prestigious building in America and possibly the entire world.

The tweet was posted at 17:07 GMT and has received more than 2,000 retweets and 7,000 likes at the time of writing.

Yet the comments are a mix of disbelief and ridicule from the once proud home of Barack Obama, John F. Kennedy, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.

Some felt that Trump had hugged the flag for a little too long...

While Trump may have thought this was patriotic, he inadvertently paid tribute to the previous two maligned leaders of Venezuela.

There is also this very important rule which Trump forgot.
