Trump hugged the American flag before his CPAC speech and people are confused

Donald Trump exhibited a rare display of affection on Saturday when he gave an American flag a great big (and kind of creepy) cuddle before his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland.

As "God Bless the USA" blasted over the speakers, the president embraced the flag before taking to the podium, where he delivered a two-hour-long speech that covered everything from the much disputed Russia probe to Jeff Session's southern accent and the "maniac" Democrats running for office in 2020.

Trump spoke in front of a rapt, MAGA hat-wearing crowd, marking his fifth appearance at the gathering and his third since entering office.

This was not the first time the president was seen getting intimate with an American flag, but that certainly doesn't mean the CPAC moment would not get its social media treatment.

It's fair to say that some people were very creeped out about the whole thing.

Cue the baby blimp jokes

The bizarre moment also lent itself as the perfect opportunity to roast the president's beloved eldest – the cow-loving Donald Trump Jr.

And here are some other jokes about the creepy bear hug, purely for entertainment reasons.
