An Arabic hashtag translating as ‘I love gays and I’m not one of them’ went viral in Saudi Arabia, in support of the LGBT community.

On Thursday, it became the number one trending topic in Saudi Arabia – where homosexuality is illegal – and fourth worldwide.

Under the country’s interpretation of sharia law, any married man or non-Muslim who commits sodomy with a Muslim can be stoned to death.

A second offence of homosexuality can lead to death, and first time offenders can expect prison, lashing, or in some cases, death.

But many showed their support for the LGBT community.

There were messages of support...

People saying that we are all human...

...and even some Spongebob.
